The beginning of the school year is right around the corner! With fall comes shorter days and busier streets. This time of year can be dangerous for transportation to and from school. Here at Moore Protection, we want to make sure you and your children stay safe this school year by providing you with the following helpful tips:

Better Ways to Bike

Does your child ride their bike to school? It is very important to teach them the proper traffic safety rules so they can ride cautiously and carefully. Make sure that your child is fitted properly with a bicycle helmet and looks both ways before crossing any street. It is also important to make sure their tires are always full of air to prevent any instability.

Be Watchful While Walking

A great cardinal rule to follow is to always accompany your child on their walk to school, until they are at least 10 years of age. Show them the right ways to cross the street, obey traffic lights and how to look both ways for oncoming cars. It is also vital to educate your children on talking to strangers and what to do if approached.

Stay Focused During Your Drive

Did you know that if your child is under the age of 12, it is recommended to have them ride in the back seat for ultimate safety? With the busy environment surrounding schools, drivers can get distracted easily and it is important to always be aware. Be a positive example for your child and keep your cell phone tucked away.

Safety on the School Bus

School buses are the safest way to get your children back and forth to school. If your child takes the bus to school, make sure they know how to wait at the bus stop, get on and off the bus and ride on the bus safely. It is important to teach your kids to be especially careful about not going in front of or behind the bus and to always wait on the sidewalk.

No matter which way you and your child travel to school, it is important to be safe and aware. Here at Moore Protection, your family’s safety is our top priority and we hope you take advantage of these helpful tips! If you have any questions or want more information, contact us today!
